The Goal

To design a compact, two-story A-frame getaway that works with the natural slope of the site rather than against it, creating an efficient, design-driven Airbnb cabin that feels immersive in its mountain setting.

The Details

The cabin’s full-height glazed front elevation opens the living space to the surrounding forest, filling the interior with natural light and framing views of the snow-laden pines beyond. An open-concept ground floor combines the entry, living room, and kitchen around a striking spiral staircase that leads to a private loft-level bedroom and bath above — making efficient use of every square foot within the steep roofline. A small carport and deck area round out the site.

The Materials

The exterior is wrapped almost entirely in dark standing-seam metal roofing and flashing, giving the cabin a sleek, monolithic presence against the wooded landscape. Inside, warm wood cladding lines the ceiling and walls, while full-height glazing at the front elevation maximizes the connection to the outdoors — a striking pairing of dark metal and warm wood that feels both modern and at home in its mountain setting.
